The seed that lead to all this was a recognition that there is a high rate of isolation in the disability community. We started with the idea of a sports based program which led us to look at other programs that are of interest to our consumers.
So, we came up with the idea of putting together Games and Crafts/Art project one afternoon a month! It grew and has been very successful! In observing our consumers who participate I saw creative talents: knitting, crocheting, jewelry design, drawing and painting.
One of the goals of disAbility Connections has been to develop ways for consumers to increase their incomes and microenterprises such as CreateAbilit</em>y are often utilized as a way to do this.
"CreateAbility" is just that! It features works of art created by persons with and without disabilities who live in our service area of Jackson, Lenawee and Hillsdale counties!
"CreateAbility" is under the coordination of Brenda Bobon with the assistance of an Advisory Board made up of talented, successful artists in the community.
Items can be picked up at our office at 409 Linden Ave., Jackson, MI. 49203. Please allow 7 business days for us to ship orders. We accept cash, money orders and checks as payment and all sales are final. Checks payable to disAbility Connections with "Createability" in the memo section. Buyers pay applicaable sales tax for their State. Work is guaranteed by the artist. If you are not able to drive to our office and interested in an item, please call Brenda at our office!
